At Woodstock Smiles, we offer patients composite, or tooth-colored, dental fillings to help repair the damage done by tooth decay and cavities. Composite fillings offer a number of advantages over traditional amalgam, or metal, fillings that help to improve patient comfort and satisfaction.
Unlike amalgam fillings, composite fillings offer benefits that include:
- Amalgam fillings standout from the natural color and complexion of a patient's tooth. Composite fillings are tooth-colored and blend seamlessly into your smile.
- Amalgam fillings contain traces levels of mercury that could potentially present a health hazard. Composite fillings contain no mercury or other hazardous metal.
- While amalgam fillings can last for years, and even decades, they will eventually breakdown. Composite fillings offer extraordinary durability that can last for a lifetime.
Composite vs. Amalgam - What's the Difference?
Dental amalgam is composed of a mixture of metals that include liquid elemental mercury and a powdered alloy that consists of copper, silver, and tin. Roughly half of the weight of dental amalgam comes from elemental mercury.
Resin Composite is composed of a ceramic and plastic compound that's designed to blend seamlessly into a tooth's natural color.
